Where to Listen: At home; at a party; when you're feeling groovy.
An oldie for you today from the Prince of Motown/Soul. This is one of my all-time favourite songs. It's got a base riff that gets you moving, a cowbell that won't quit and lyrics that can resonate with everyone at some point or another ("I used to go out to parties and stand around, 'cause I was too nervous to really get down"). Hell, just watch the music video. Afros, white suits, wide lapels and bell-bottom trousers: it was a phenomenal period in history and I feel like this song epitomizes it perfectly. I love the talking in the background, too. Put this song on when you're alone and suddenly you're in the middle of a 1970's house party. I know that devout Classic Rock lovers are supposed to hate this kind of stuff, but frankly, HOW could anyone hate this?? Just watch that man break it down! He deserves your love and respect, and definitely deserves to be added to your music library.
Give it up for Marvin Gaye.
